Similarities Between Dysport, Botox®, and Xeomin
All three of these options involve the injection of #BotulinumToxin and are utilized for cosmetic purposes to diminish the appearance of unwelcome wrinkles on the upper part of the face. They offer a convenient and expeditious means of restoring or sustaining a more youthful appearance. All three function by obstructing neurotransmitters to the muscles, facilitating muscle relaxation and subsequently smoothing the skin.
The primary contrast among #Dysport, #Botox, and #Xeomin appears to lie in their molecular weight, which impacts how they disperse following injection, the additives (namely, proteins) contained in each injectable, and the speed at which noticeable results commence.
Generally, Dysport necessitates a greater number of units than Botox or Xeomin and manifests results more rapidly, while also being more cost-effective per unit. On the other hand, Botox and Xeomin require a longer time for results to become apparent, but fewer units are needed to achieve comparable outcomes. All three deliver results that endure for roughly the same duration.

Additives in Dysport, Botox®, and Xeomin
Regarding the protein composition of the three primary injectables, both Dysport and Botox contain intricate proteins in addition to the botulinum toxin, whereas Xeomin comprises solely the botulinum toxin without any additives.
The presence of these proteins in each formulation impacts their molecular weight and how they spread. Botox maintains a consistent molecular weight, whereas Dysport's molecular weight can fluctuate, increasing the likelihood of it spreading to other areas. This characteristic can be viewed positively or negatively. For example, the ability to diffuse into other areas is advantageous if you have numerous small wrinkles, but it can be a drawback if it diffuses too closely to the brow or eye area, potentially causing drooping.
Units Required: Dysport vs Botox® vs Xeomin
To treat the Glabella area (the area between the eyes where the notorious “11’s” can form), each injectable would require, on average:
Dysport: up to 50 units
Botox: 20 units
Xeomin: 20 units
*These are average units, and each patient’s needs will vary.
Onset of Results for Dysport, Botox®, and Xeomin
A major difference between Dysport, Botox, and Xeomin is the onset of results. To compare, the onset of the results for each injectable would be:
Dysport: 24 hours
Botox®: 72 hours
Xeomin: 4 days
Since the onset of results just describes when you will start to see the results, keep in mind that for all three injectables, you will see full results in a week or two.
However, with all of these options, your results will last 3 to 6 months depending on how much you have injected into the treated area.
While Botox remains the world leader in botulinum toxin, all three products in essence perform the same functions, so which to use often comes down to personal choice.
When choosing between Dysport, Botox, and Xeomin, the best recommendation we can give you is to visit a highly experienced injector for any cosmetic injection and filler and find out which is right for you based on your specific desired results and personal preference.
